Kimberly Martin, M.A., Psychology Extern, is a clinical psychology doctoral candidate with over 6 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of adults with anxiety, bipolar, depression, eating, posttraumatic stress, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders. Ms. Martin has worked with diverse patient populations across settings including a crisis house, residential treatment facility, private practice and forensic institute, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, psychiatric academic research center, and Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). She practices from a psychodynamic perspective while integrating cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies. She believes in a collaborative, humanistic, strengths-based approach to treatment that is tailored according to client presenting problems, characteristics, culture, and preferences. She is committed to practicing cultural humility through interpersonal openness and empowering clients to overcome obstacles to create their chosen life worth living.
Ms. Martin received her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University (AIU) in San Diego, California and is completing her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.). Ms. Martin has received training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) at the University of California (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Eating Disorders Center (EDC). Ms. Martin has received further training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Additionally, Ms. Martin is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has completed a fellowship with the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center (SDPC).
