Kimberly Martin, Psy.D. is a Resident in Clinical Psychology with eight years of experience in the treatment of anxiety, bipolar, depression, posttraumatic stress, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders. Dr. Martin practices from a psychodynamic perspective while integrating cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies. She believes in a collaborative, humanistic, strengths-based approach to treatment that is tailored according to client concerns, characteristics, culture, and preferences. She is committed to practicing cultural humility through interpersonal openness and empowering clients to overcome obstacles to create their chosen life worth living. Dr. Martin has worked with diverse patient populations across settings including a crisis house, residential treatment facility, private practice and forensic institute, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, psychiatric academic research center, Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), and university counseling center.
Dr. Martin received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated with both her Master of Arts and Doctorate of Psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in San Diego, California. Dr. Martin completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship at West Virginia University (WVU) with The Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. She has received training in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry as well as training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Eating Disorders Center. Dr. Martin has received further training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Additionally, Dr. Martin is trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and has completed a fellowship with the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center.
